The rest of the story...

OK...Here it is...the moment you have all been waiting for...

Jett's first squirrel!

Yes...that is right. He did it...shot it with a be be gun (is that how you spell it?) So guess who is responsible for this? Papa...yup...Papa pumped the be be gun a million times and Jett got him in one shot.

I remember it all so clearly. I am sitting in the living room, watching TV, when I hear Jett run into the house, carrying it...with excitment in his voice he says, "Look mom...look what I got"! He then went on to describe how the squirrel reacted once shot! Not the part of a story that you tell a mom. Anyway here is the picture of him holding it up. Note what he is wearing. He likes to be a "country" boy as he would put it. He loves to wear this shirt (which he would wear everyday of the week if I would let him) and has about worn out these camo shorts.

Ok, now for the rest of the story.

Papa and him leave, go outside and skin and clean the squirrel. Because you know what they do in "these parts"...EAT IT!

I am such a "bad" mom...I did not participate at all. Not even when Gary Don (Papa) brought it inside, washed it up. Not even when he decided to batter it and fry it, not even when he sat the plate on the kitchen table, which included the head...yes the head (he removed the eyeballs shortly before frying). I did not eat a bite, despite pleas from my children. Shawn felt like I should have been more excited and participated more on Jett's first "catch". Please, someone tell me that I am not the only one that would have a hard time frying up squirrel especially the head (that still had an eyelash or two attached I might add)!

On a serious note,I did do some thinking about it and talking to Shawn...I am going to HAVE to reform some to things I am not comfortable with. Jett LOVES the outdoors. If I want to get on his "level" and spend time with him, the way he likes, I am going to have to participate and relax a little more outdoors. It sounds easy when I am sitting in my comfortable space right now. Don't get me wrong, I love to watch the boys outside, but I am more like an observer, not a participant. But I am determined to, for Jett and Luke. So perhaps soon, you will read a post about what mom and her boys did, one that involves dirt, creatures, adventures.

Notice I did not say eat certain creatures. One step at a time...please!

April honey,I was just reminded of Tony tricking me into eating that rabbit saying it was chicken! I thought I would puke! I would NEVER willingly eat a squirrel! OH my! It terrifies me thinking of it! Remember when we said the only thing we need is Dillard's and a grocery store and we would be fine, country livin just isn't for us kind of girls! I'm proud that you will be trying to be that kind of mom,I guess I will too once we move back to Arkansas! Tell Jett I'm proud of him and he looks like a country boy! :-)

This boy thing is tougher than it looks. I am right there with you. I won't even try shrimp. There is no way I am eating anything that still has eyeballs attached. Either way we are proud of Jett!

That is awesome! I hate squirrels, I mean really really loathe those things. I will also admit I am a bit afraid of them! I feel they have gotten to used to us humans and don't have enough fear of us! Dead squirrels are always good in my opinion! Tell Jett to keep up the good work!
